| Lowe's donation builds! Lowe's Home Improvement arrived on campus Wednesday, February 3 with $4,000 of Skils™ Tools for the Building and Grounds program. Representing Lowe’s was Ed Thornhill, Commercial Sales Manager; Mike Conn, Sales Manager/Troy; and Dave VanDegrift, Sales Specialist/Troy. The three delivered the wide array of power tools during the junior's morning lab. Frank Segretti, Building and Grounds Instructor said he was overwhelmed and very appreciative of the donation that will allow each student to have dedicated use of tools during lab. “We’ve never been able to do that before,” he said. Students also expressed their appreciation and plan to put the Skils™ tools to the test right away. The Building and Grounds class is currently working on a construction project that requires them to work from blueprints to construct a full bath. To complete the assignment students will be framing, installing drywall, electrical, plumbing, ceramic tile, trim and finish work. Mike Conn’s response to the student project was, “Amazing, awesome! They learn it all!” Ed Thornhill said it was clear the Skils™ Tools will be well appreciated and fully utilized. This grant of power tools is just one example of Lowe’s commitment to community and customer service. Frank Segretti and Kyle Stager also expressed their appreciation to Dave VanDegrift for his service on the Building and Grounds program Advisory Committee. Today’s visit wasn’t the first for Mr. VanDegrift and he hopes to return soon to check out the current project in it’s final stages. The UVJVS Building and Grounds program prepares students with a broad base of construction and landscaping skills plus forklift, scissorlift, and bobcat® license, and OSHA-10 Card. |
