Seniors Honored at Convocation

Upper Valley JVS’s 365 seniors made their final appearance at the school's 34th annual Convocation on Thursday, May 28, 2008, at 7:00 p.m. at the Hobart Arena, Troy. The seniors, representing 14 associate schools and several open-enrollment schools and from 30 different career technical programs, each received a Certificate of Career Technical Achievement with Honors, a Certificate of Career Technical Achievement, a Career Technical Certificate, or a Record of Participation.

Amie Benedict, a Computer Information Technology major from Covington, led the Pledge of Allegiance. She also welcomed everyone to Convocation and introduced special guests.

Doug Trostle, JVS Board of Education President from the Troy Board of Education offered the graduates his congratulations and best wishes.

Director Michael Shellabarger presided at the Convocation. Assisting him were Superintendent Dr. Nancy Luce; Principal Joe Davis; and Supervisors Carol Baer, Eric Bowser, Chuck Braden, Gene Cordonnier, Rita Hollenbacher, Deb Holthaus, Terry Krogman, Bill Overla and Randy Smith.

High School faculty members presented seniors with their Certificates.

The top JVS students are Amie Benedict, Joshua Burns, Leslie "Brooke" Ferryman and Michael Sherman, each earning a 4.0 grade point average.

Benedict, daughter of Crist and Mary Beth Benedict of Covington, is enrolled in the Computer Information Technology program. She plans to attend Wright State University upon graduation.

Burns is the son of Tim and Nadene Burns of Covington. He is an Ag & Power Technology student who plans to continue working on the family farm and to attend Northwestern University.

Ferryman who is an Early Childhood Care & Education major from Piqua Christian School is the daughter of Bryan and Nancy Ferryman of Bradford. She plans to attend Edison Community College then transfer to obtain a degree as a special needs teacher.

Sherman, from Piqua Christian School, is the son of Mike and Wendy Sherman of Piqua. He is an Ag and Power Technology student who plans to attend Edison Community College to earn a degree in Mobile Power Technology.
