Why We Are Here

JVS Names Students of the Quarter

Newton High School senior Christina Carver and New Bremen High School junior Katie Heitkamp were named the Upper Valley JVS Students of the Quarter for the third nine-week grading period.

According to JVS Director of Student Services, Randy Smith, Carver is a Business and Financial Management student and Heitkamp is a Med Tech student. They were selected from a group of twelve nominations for the quarter honors.

Nominations for Student of the Quarter can be made by any teacher, counselor, or administrator. Students’ attendance, citizenship, leadership and effort are rated. In addition the student’s academic and career technical program instructors are asked to rate each nominee’s effort during the nine-week grading period.

Carver is the daughter of Jeffrey and Cindy Carver of Ludlow Falls. She was nominated by her career-technical instructor, Lucy Bailey. Carver is a member of the JVS Student Senate, Business Professionals of America and serves as the secretary of her class. Her academic teachers describe her as a very quiet and cooperative student and one who steps up as a classroom leader. They all supported her as a recipient of this honor.

Heitkamp is the daughter of Philip and Theresa Heitkamp. Her instructor, Tami Yahle, nominated her for this recognition. One of Heitkamp’s long-term goals is to become a registered nurse. Her academic instructors also shared that Heitkamp is very deserving of this honor because she works very hard each and every day. In addition, they consider her to be an honest, dependable, ambitious student who serves as a role model for her classmates.
