Why We Are Here

Pi Day! A great day to be a math teacher.

Sunday, March 14 was an important day for math enthusiasts like UVJVS instructor David Stace. Pi Day may have increased in popularity since the U.S. House of Representatives approved a 2009 resolution officially declaring the 3.14 observance, but Mr. Stace was a Pi fan long before the resolution. He has been engaging students with the study of mathematics - including knowledge of the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter - for years. While Pi can now be calculated to over 1 trillion digits past the decimal, there was an equally impressive line of "Pies" found in the classroom last Friday when Mr. Stace shared his annual culinary observance with students and staff. He offered a broad selection of cream, berry, pumpkin, apple, etc., etc., and the perennial student favorite - pizza pi. Mr. Stace would like to thank his mom, his wife, and all who contributed to the event!
